About this Page

The purpose of this page is to show the design. The text is mostly filler text that is taken from articles or blog posts I have written. While the text is meaningful, it is not organized in a complete fashion, but more used to illustrate how the page would appear with content inserted.

All aspects of the page are editable, including colors, sizes, layout etc. If you like this page and would like to use it for your site, please fill out the contact form and I will contact you shortly.

Getting Found on the Internet

With the number of web sites approaching 200 million, it makes it more and more difficult to have your site found. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) has spawned an entire industry devoted to getting your site ranked high in a search.image

These are some simple tactics the site owner can do to help themselves.

One of the more challenging aspects of getting a web site launched is to get the site owner to provide content, or more to the point, information about their company that can be put out for public consumption.

As a site owner, you should provide the information to the designer. Lets face it, you should know more about your business and competitors than anyone else, so you are in the best position to provide the text. A good designer may edit or arrange the content in an productive and attractive layout, but the basics should come from you.

Words Count

Many people throw words around like "keywords" or "meta tags" when talking about searches. As an owner, what you should be thinking about is what words will a potential new customer or client use, and more important, what phrases will these people most use when looking for you.

Don't forget some basics.

I don't know how many times I have come across a web site that does not have the name of the company in text. I don't mean in a logo or a pretty image, but in text and preferably in what is called a heading tag.

Search engines do not read images, so your logo is meaningless in getting you found, and heading tags are HTML code tags that are used to show importance of particular text on a page.

Use Variations

I created a site for an attorney in Chester County Pa by the name of Donald J. Weiss. His site is on the plain side, however that is exactly what he wanted and more important, it is attractive to his particular demographic.

The important part about his site is that I used every variation of his name and title as I could think of to help him get found, and it works. I used Mr. Weiss, Mr. Donald Weiss, Mr. Donald J. Weiss, Don Weiss....you get the point.

When I look at his site analytics everyday, I see that people have found him using all, parts and different variations of his name, but the important part is that he gets found!

Now I realize that some would argue that since people already knew his name, he was going to get found anyway, well, no, not always. If his name was not mentioned as many times as it was, other sites might pop up ahead of his. And, there might just be another Weiss Esq on the internet, and they might just get the call instead of my client.

Call to action closing statement.

After you have completed your message on the page, it is a good idea to have a "call to action" statement and map, meaning you tell your visitor that if they like what they are reading and would like more information, then they can contact you, so I have included a handy mini-contact form over to your left that you can send me a note!

Analysis of this Page

This is a variation of the page Elegant but with a blue / gold color theme to it. The page has a nice contemporary appearance, very nice for professional firms that don't want a flashy page but do not want to appear old and out of date. It is designed to be very easy to read with supporting graphics interlaced in the text.

The visitor can very quickly determine the subject matter of the page with the heading statements, then if it is a subject they want to learn more about can simply read the paragraphs.

If you fill out the form on the left, you will see a personalized message appear on the screen thanking the visitor for their submission and also informing them that you have sent them an email with your contact information in it.

The site owner then gets a message saying that a visitor has sent them a message from this page, so you know the visitors interest and you know that the page is successful.
